Project Goal:
Pilot Introduction of Development Education in the Education System in Bulgaria.
Description:
Getting to Know! is a project that aims to introduce Development Education, or known also as Global Education in the Bulgarian schools and universities. With this project we and our partners target school teachers and their students, thereby presenting global issues that explore the economical, social and environmental interconnections between us “here” and the others “somewhere there”.
Our final goal is that young people:
Acquire deep knowledge about the Millennium Development Goals and about issues such as climate change, poverty, access to education and health;
Build skills such as critical thinking, decision making and problem solving;
Develop values and attitudes about social justice, acceptance of the other and active citizenship.
The approach that we apply in our training and in the toolkits is interactive, based on learning by doing method. This includes: delivery of the basic information on the topic, independent research made by the students, learning through educational games, application of the learned in proposed actions at local, or international level.
Without adding weight to the curriculum, the project activities aim to fulfill a gap in the Bulgarian educational space, a gap of knowledge on global issues and of skills for social action.
